The range and scope of available website content management systems (CMS) on the market can be baffling. If you get the wrong one, or implement it badly, you can end up with major confusion, disruption and waste.

Generally speaking there are two CMS options.

• The first is to have a custom made CMS built for you. This has the advantage of providing exactly the right solution for your business but the downside is that the cost will be higher, delivery time longer, the product less reliable and difficult to support.
• The second option is an off the shelf solution which is less expensive and has proper support. However, there are inherent difficulties integrating it with existing IT structures and databases, and there can be a surplus or a lack of features – both can lead to problems.
